Soulful blues musician Kirk Fletcher is very happy to release his new album “My Blues Pathway” via Cleopatra Records.

Born in Bellflower, California, Kirk gained confidence watching his elder sibling, Walter, perform at their father's church. Kirk learned rudimentary guitar by the age of eight, and was a member of the jazz band during high school.

Kirk Fletcher has been a member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and performed with Joe Bonamassa, Doyle Bramhall, and guest appearances playing alongside Cyndi Lauper and Michelle Branch.

“The album was a joy to make,” says Kirk – “especially making music with some of my longtime friends. I’ve known drummer David Kida for over 25 years. We have been in the trenches together on the L.A. Blues music scene. I had a brief run through with my friend, bassist Travis Carlton the day before we started tracking to help structure some forms and arrangements. It was very important for me to include some covers on this album. I wanted to shine a spotlight on some of my favorite blues artists including Sonny Boy Williamson, Chris Cain, AC Reed and Juke Boy Bonner.””

How did the album come about?

Well, you know, I, the record I started it in last October 2019, I started to get the itch to do another record. And basically I was going to do another record and I was going to record it in LA, you know, with some friends of mine and it was going to be a little bit of this, and a little of that, kind of all over the board, but a little later that month I went to Arkansas and played at the King Biscuit Blues Festival, one festival I have played off and on for years. And it was something about that trip that made me really feel that it was time to go back and do a real blues record like when I first started, you know, to do so, I basically started to think about the songs that I already had, and covers, and think about how can I arrange these songs in more of a blues way.

On the clean tone on the record

Well, I purposely kind of went for a different type tone. I wanted to do more of a cleaner tone.  I kind of wanted to embrace this, like sort of more of a Robert Cray approach guitar tone. Nowadays people make records and there's a lot of overdriven guitar and things like that.I wanted to do something different production wise. Something '80s blues records feel.

Kirk Fletcher releases “My Blues Pathway” on September 25, 2020, on digital platforms, CD and a limited edition PURPLE vinyl courtesy of Cleopatra Records Inc... The album features originals and tributes of quintessential blues classics by Sonny Boy Williamson, Chris Cain, AC Reed and Juke Boy Bonner.

The album starts with “Ain’t No Cure For The Downhearted.” The song captures the listener right from when Fletcher starts playing with his distinctive tone. The first single, ‘No Place To Go’ brings the listener into a great walking blues groove with background horns. The upbeat ‘Rather Fight Than Switch’ showcases great saxophone and guitar.

The sound is different than his previous albums. Kirk Flecher told me he wanted a “bare sound and live off the floor album.” This album is a masterpiece that is well done and produced well. The album is from Kirk Fletcher’s experiences and influences.

This is an album you can put on and enjoy each track as it is a joy to listen to.
